Guide: Cody Grubbs
Favorite Fly: Beldar Bugger
Favorite Time to Fish: September - November
Cody is an avid angler and outdoorsman. A Washington native and originally a spin fisherman he moved to Wyoming and quickly picked up a passion for fly fishing. A decade later, Cody greatly enjoys sharing his love and knowledge of fly fishing with friends, visitors, and guests. He spends as much time as possible fishing with his wife and teaching their young son on our local waters. Cody and his family have had many adventures chasing fish on the fly all over the west but are always glad to be back to this amazing place we call home. When Cody is not fishing he spends his time hunting food for his family and finding solace in the mountains.
Welcome are excited to be working with Rockin’ M Ranch to offer several different adventures this year.
Lower Snake River Jet Boat Trip with Rockin’ M Ranch
Another unique fishing opportunity that we are excited to offer for the 2017 season is a jet boat trip on the lower Snake, Salt, and Greys River. Rockin’ M Ranch has purchased a 18’ power drifter. The boat has all of the comforts of a drift boat and the upstream mobility of a jet boat to access these unique waters not easily accessible to drift boats. Rockin’ M Ranch is permitted through the Targhee National Forest to fish the lower portions of these rivers as they enter Palisades Reservoir.
Fall Salt River Brown Trout Run
The fall is an exciting time for Fly Fisherman in our area. Large numbers of Brown Trout make their way from Palisades up the Salt River to spawn in the main river channel and spring creeks of the upper river. The best time to experience the Brown Trout Run is during the month of October. Fly Fisherman will want to throw streamers for best results. Spin fishing also works very well. 16”-25” brown trout are not uncommon at this time of the year. Please inquire about special discounted combination guided fishing and cabin rental packages. Incorporating your fishing trip into an elk hunt or duck hunt is also a possibility.
Horseback /Fly Fishing Trip Rockin’ M Ranch
The Rockin’ M Ranch location on the Salt River enables us to offer a very unique and exclusive full day adventure. Your guide will start your day with a 3-4 hour morning horseback ride originating from the onsite Rockin’ M stables. Upon finishing your morning horseback adventure you will enjoy a delicious riverside lunch while your guide makes the transition from the horses to the river. The afternoon will be spent fly fishing while your guide navigates you and your fishing partner down the Salt River, from a drift boat, casting at Cutthroat, Rainbow, and Brown trout. At the completion of your fishing adventure you will end up back at the Rockin’ M Salt River boat ramp. All equipment, lunch, and drinks are provided for this horseback/fly fishing adventure. Your guide will give you a fly fishing/horseback riding lesson for those new to the sport. Spin fishing available upon request.
Our trips are “all inclusive”. At no extra charge, your guide will supply all flies, leaders, lunch, drinks, shuttles, and use of equipment, including rods. Anglers will be responsible for their own fishing licenses. Guide gratuities gladly excepted when earned. We have several great guides that work with us daily, therefore we can easily accommodate multiple boat trips!!

Favorite Fly: "Whatever just came off my vise."
Favorite Time to Fish: Spring and Raining.
Ben started hanging around the shop in 2013 building rods in his free time and fishing our local water any chance he could. His wife and he spent multiple summers living out of a converted short bus so that they could be closer to the rivers they loved spending so much time on. He has been guiding for Pioneer Anglers since 2015 and works in the shop when he's not on the river. Ben loves getting our clients out on the Salt River and sharing his passion for all things fly fishing. He spends his free time fishing with his family, tying flies, and exploring new rivers
